Draft for review. This document has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel and may change before launch.
The God Speaks Bible app ("the app") is provided by Operation Light Force ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. The short version: the app is free, we do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and your journal and prayer list are private to you.
What we collect
If you use the app without an account
Everything you save (highlights, bookmarks, notes, journal entries, prayer requests, plan progress, and settings) stays on your device. It is not sent to us.
If you create an account
- Account details: your email address and password. Passwords are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form; we cannot see them.
- Profile: the name, picture, short "about you" line, and church or group you choose to add. All are optional.
- What you create in the app: highlights, bookmarks, notes, journal entries (including listening, dream, and study entries), your prayer list, reading plan progress, the days you read, and your reading settings. These are stored so they sync across your devices.
- Friends features: friend requests and connections, verses you choose to share with friends, encouragements you send and receive, people you block, and reports you file.
- Workbook access: the unlock codes you redeem and the products they unlock.
- Color reports: if you report a possible color mistake on a verse, the verse and your comment.
- Updates from Operation Light Force: only if you choose to receive them (at sign-up or in Profile & Settings), we record that choice and when you made it. You can turn it off anytime.
If you use these optional features
- Daily reminders: if you turn them on, we store the address your browser gives us for sending notifications, the time you chose, and your time zone. Turning reminders off deletes them.
- Feedback: the message you send from Help & feedback, its type, the page you came from, and the app version. If you are signed in it is linked to your account so we can reply; if not, it includes an email address only if you add one.
- Listening: the Bible is read aloud by your device's own voices. Nothing you listen to is sent to us.
Technical information
- Error reports: when the app hits a problem, it sends a technical report to our error monitoring service (Sentry): the error message, where in the app's code it happened, the page (without any search terms or codes in the address), the app version, and your browser and device type. Error reports never include your journal, notes, or prayer text. We set the service up not to store IP addresses.
- Server logs: our hosting provider keeps standard short-term logs of requests to the site (such as IP address, time, and page requested) to keep the service running and secure.
- Bot protection: when you sign up or sign in, a security check may confirm that you are a person and not an automated program.
- Anonymous usage counts: the app adds 1 to daily totals for things like "a chapter was read", "the Journal screen was opened", or "someone signed in", and counts each device once a day as active. Only the day, the kind of event, and sometimes a short detail (a Bible version, plan name, screen name, or whether the app is installed on a phone or computer) are stored: never who you are, your device, your IP address, or what you write or search for. To tell a new visit from a returning one, your browser keeps the date of your first visit and the time of your last activity on your device; these are never sent. You can turn counting off in Profile & Settings.
- Page visits: our hosting provider (Vercel) counts page visits for us: the page opened (without any search terms or codes in the address), the site that linked to it, and the country, browser, and device type. It uses no cookies and stores no IP address; a visitor is recognized only within the same day. Turning counting off in Profile & Settings also stops these counts.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Who can see your information
- Your journal, prayer list, notes, highlights, and bookmarks are never shared with friends or anyone else in the app.
- Friends you accept can see your name, picture, "about you" line, and church or group. They see your plan progress and reading streak only if you turn those on in Profile & Settings, and a verse only when you choose to share it.
- Our administrators can see the list of accounts (email, name, join date, role, whether the workbook is unlocked, and whether you asked for updates), reports and feedback people send, the list of people who asked for updates, and the anonymous usage totals. Our staff do not read journal entries or prayer requests. People who maintain the service may access stored data only when needed to keep it running, fix a problem you report, protect the service, or comply with the law.
- Service providers who run parts of the app for us, under their own privacy and security commitments: Supabase (database, sign-in, and picture storage, hosted in the United States), Vercel (website hosting and page visit counts), Sentry (error monitoring), Cloudflare (bot protection on sign-up and sign-in), and your browser's push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla, or Microsoft) to deliver daily reminders you turn on. They process data only to provide their service to us.
- Legal requirements: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of people or the service.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Data on your device
So the app works offline, it keeps copies of your content, the Bible versions you download, and the workbook lessons you open on your device. Anyone who can unlock your device and open the app can read them, unless you turn on the journal lock. Signing out removes your content, your settings, and the workbook lessons from this device (they stay in your account); deleting your account removes them everywhere.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data until you delete it or delete your account. Things you delete in the app are removed from our database when your device syncs. When you delete your account, your account and everything connected to it (content, friends, shared verses, picture) are deleted right away. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before they are overwritten. Error reports are kept for up to 90 days. Reminder settings are deleted when you turn reminders off. Feedback is kept until it has been handled and is no longer needed. Anonymous usage totals contain nothing about you and may be kept to show trends over time.
Your choices and rights
- See and download your data: Profile & Settings > Your data > Download my data.
- Correct it: edit your profile and content at any time.
- Delete it: delete individual items in the app, or delete your whole account in Profile & Settings > Account.
- Control sharing: turn plan progress and streak sharing on or off, remove friends, and block people.
Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California), you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict how we use your information, or to complain to a data protection authority. To use any of these rights, contact us by email at OperationLightForce@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days. We do not treat you differently for using your privacy rights.
Security
Information travels between the app and our servers encrypted. Our database is set up so each account can reach only its own private data, and access for administrators is limited and checked on the server. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 should not create an account. If we learn that a child under 13 has given us personal information, we will delete it. Parents can contact us by email at OperationLightForce@gmail.com.
Where data is stored
Your account data is stored in the United States. If you use the app from another country, your information is transferred to the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will let you know in the app before it takes effect.
